Title:
Fallstudie 1: Umweltkonzept und Ökodesign bei IMM Elektronik
Author:
Dipl.-Ing. Bert Schusser, IMM Elektronik GmbH, Mittweida
Abstract:
IMM is supplier for audio and medical equipment, e.g. PCI/PCMCIA Interface PCBs, high end devices for sound studios, USB decoupler. IMM also acts as electronics manufacturing ser-vice. In 2005 IMM had approx. 200 employees.
The company philosophy includes: ?Producing efficiently by sav-ing natural resources. To link profitability and ecology is seen as a chance for sustainable business success in the present and future.?
As an EMS the enterprise has mainly influence on the produc-tion processes and supplied components and less influence on the product design itself. IMM focuses on the establishment of an environmental management system and especially on en-ergy efficiency of the production facilities: Energy costs are in the range of 3.5 ? 12 % within the IMM Group, meaning that the profit margin rises by 25% if energy consumption can be cut by a quarter. Energy efficiency directly pays for IMM. Addi-tionally IMM made the transition towards leadfree already a while ago and was well prepared for RoHS.
Product concepts at IMM consider
? Use of environmentally-benign technologies and materials
? Limit the material variety
? Construction takes into account recyclability and reusability
? Minimization of material and energy consumption through-out the whole product life cycle.
In 2003 IMM won the Award ?Electronics Manufacturing Service of the Year ? Special Award Ecology?. By the way, IMM also received a couple of innovation awards.
